The Computational Protein Engineering group is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to advance methods for protein engineering using innovative experimental and computational techniques. The role involves developing AI models that account for epistasis to enhance enzyme properties and contribute to sustainable bioproduction and bioremediation efforts.

Qualifications

  • PhD in chemical engineering or applied chemistry
  • Experience in biocatalysis, protein engineering, and chemical engineering
  • Proficiency in kinetic modeling and process engineering of dehydrogenases
  • Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals
  • Excellent command of English, both written and spoken
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to work independently
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for interdisciplinary collaboration

Responsibilities

  • Create workflows for high-throughput enzyme kinetics data generation
  • Engineer multiple enzyme properties through experimental and computational methods
  • Identify variants using next-generation sequencing techniques
  • Conduct protein expression, purification, and characterization using biochemical and biophysical assays
  • Collaborate with computational experts to develop epistasis-aware AI models
  • Present findings at international conferences and publish in peer-reviewed journals
  • Mentor PhD, MSc, and BSc students, as well as research assistants

Education

  • A PhD degree (or equivalent) is required.

Tools

  • Familiarity with next-generation sequencing technologies (e.g., Nanopore)
  • Experience with biochemical and biophysical assay techniques.
