Job summary

This position involves conducting research on anaerobic microbial consortia for biotechnological applications, focusing on the design and construction of tailored microbial communities for biowaste valorization. The role is part of a European Research Council funded project and requires collaboration within a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

  • PhD degree in Bioinformatics, Microbiology, Life Sciences, Biochemistry, or a related field.
  • Strong background in bioinformatics and computational biology.
  • Experience in modern anaerobic microbiology and molecular biology.
  • Proven track record in executing research projects and supervising students.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, with a history of publishing high-impact articles.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an international environment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct bioinformatics analyses, including the construction of Metagenome-Assembled Genomes (MAGs) and determining metabolic pathways and microbial interactions.
  • Co-supervise PhD, MSc, and BSc students.
  • Present research findings at conferences and in scientific publications.
  • Contribute to fundraising efforts within the department.
  • Wet lab experience is a plus.

Skills

  • Proficiency in bioinformatics tools and techniques.
  • Knowledge of metagenomics and metabolic modeling.
  • Strong collaborative skills and international experience.

Education

  • A PhD in a relevant field is required.

Tools

  • Experience with Oxford Nanopore Technologies sequencing and genome-centric metagenomics is preferred.
