Job summary

This position involves a full-time PhD opportunity focused on low-carbon cement and advanced characterization of cementitious materials. The role emphasizes innovation through the integration of material science and modeling to understand calcium carbonate formation in cement under various environmental conditions.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in building materials, material science, inorganic chemistry, or related fields.
  • Experience in microstructural testing of cementitious materials is advantageous.
  • Strong communication skills and fluency in English are required.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate carbonation processes and interactions of carbonated phases with cementitious materials under different atmospheric conditions.
  • Conduct experimental work on formulating and optimizing calcium carbonate-rich cementitious materials.
  • Characterize the properties of cementitious materials over time using techniques such as rheological characterization, SEM, XRD, µCT, TGA, and Raman imaging.
  • Perform thermodynamic modeling and collaborate with an interdisciplinary team.
  • Publish research findings in top-tier journals and present at conferences.
  • Engage in research and teaching activities, including supervising student projects.

Skills

  • Proficiency in advanced laboratory equipment and computational modeling tools.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic research environment.

Education

  • A two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or equivalent is required.

Tools

  • Advanced laboratory equipment, computational modeling tools (thermodynamic modeling, life cycle analysis), and various characterization techniques.
