About the role

Job summary

This position involves a two-year postdoctoral research role focused on orthopaedic biomechanics, specifically examining sex-specific impingement risk in femoroacetabular impingement syndrome (FAIS). The researcher will analyze clinical hip imaging data to develop three-dimensional anatomical models and simulate hip motion to assess differences in impingement risk between genders.

Qualifications

  • PhD (or nearing completion) in biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, computational biomechanics, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in 3D medical imaging data processing (CT/MRI), including anatomical segmentation and reconstruction.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, C++, or similar languages for scientific applications.
  • Experience with computational models of joint motion and collision detection.
  • Ability to conduct independent research and collaborate in interdisciplinary teams.
  • Evidence of scientific writing, including peer-reviewed publications.

Responsibilities

  • Segment hip MRI/CT scans to create accurate 3D models of femoral and acetabular anatomy.
  • Develop computational models to simulate hip motion based on specific activities.
  • Quantify and analyze impingement risk metrics across male and female cohorts.
  • Contribute to ethics applications and manage research activities.
  • Prepare manuscripts and presentations for conferences.
  • Assist in grant development and participate in teaching activities as needed.

Skills

  • Strong technical skills in medical image processing and biomechanical modeling.
  • Experience with 3D geometry and surface meshes from medical imaging.
  • Knowledge of hip biomechanics or FAIS is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with integrating motion capture data into biomechanical simulations.

Education

  • A completed or nearly completed PhD in a relevant field is essential.

Tools

  • Proficient use of programming languages such as Python and C++ for scientific computing.
  • Familiarity with medical imaging software and biomechanical modeling tools.
