Job summary

This position involves conducting research on anaerobic microorganisms for the production of biochemicals, focusing on the identification, isolation, and engineering of these organisms. The role is part of a project aimed at developing innovative microbial production systems.

Qualifications

  • A two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or equivalent academic level.
  • Background in microbial physiology and general microbiology.
  • Hands-on experience with microbial cultivation, particularly anaerobic bacteria.
  • Familiarity with the cultivation of acetogenic bacteria.
  • Strong knowledge of molecular and synthetic biology.
  • Excellent communication skills and willingness to work in interdisciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency in English, with responsibilities including teaching and supervising BSc and MSc projects.

Responsibilities

  • Characterize anaerobic organisms for their substrate metabolism capabilities.
  • Isolate and characterize strains through various analyses including physical, genomic, and metabolite assessments.
  • Initiate metabolic engineering strategies for selected organisms.
  • Engineer host organisms for biochemicals production.
  • Collaborate with a diverse team of researchers.
  • Publish research findings in reputable scientific journals.
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations, ensuring accuracy and clarity.

Education

  • A master's degree in a relevant field is required.

Tools

  • Experience with microbial cultivation and molecular biology techniques is essential.
