Job summary

The Materials Manager is responsible for overseeing the materials function, serving as the key liaison between the company and material suppliers. This role involves sourcing, developing, and approving fabrics, trims, and components for collections, ensuring they meet performance, aesthetic, durability, and sustainability standards.

Qualifications

  • Over 7 years of experience in materials development within technical apparel, sportswear, or performance outerwear.
  • Strong knowledge of performance textiles and manufacturing processes specific to performance apparel.
  • Proficient in PLM tools and design software.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams and with external partners.
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills and a passion for high-performance cycling products.
  • Capable of managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the sourcing and development of materials for new collections from concept to approval.
  • Guide design teams in selecting appropriate materials, balancing function and sustainability.
  • Maintain accurate material data in PLM, ensuring reliable information for prototyping.
  • Manage the materials development lifecycle, ensuring timely sourcing and validation.
  • Optimize material choices for cost without compromising quality.
  • Drive innovation in materials and sustainability practices.
  • Collaborate with design, production, and quality teams to ensure alignment and efficiency.
  • Build and maintain relationships with material suppliers, ensuring clear communication and specifications.

Skills

  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to analyze and address material constraints proactively.
  • Knowledge of sustainability benchmarks and validation protocols for materials.

Education

  • Relevant degree in materials science, textile engineering, or a related field is preferred.

Tools

  • Proficient in PLM tools and design software relevant to materials development.
