Centre of Excellence Lead (Data Science & Machine Learning)

Job summary

The role involves leading and developing a centralized team of Data Scientists and ML Engineers within the Data and Analytics organization, focusing on enhancing data science and machine learning capabilities. The position requires a hands-on approach to guide technical work and ensure high standards in delivery and collaboration.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in leading technical teams of approximately 5 members, including performance management and individual development.
• Strong technical background in data science or machine learning, with the ability to coach team members effectively.
• Familiarity with both data science and machine learning disciplines to set direction and build trust within the team.
• Demonstrated success in delivering machine learning or data science projects that have achieved production status and measurable impact.
• Experience with experimentation methodologies, including A/B testing, and impact evaluation.
• Background in applied problems such as personalization, optimization, pricing, or forecasting.
• Current understanding of AI, its applications, and responsible integration into workflows.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, capable of influencing leaders across Product, Engineering, and business domains.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment with a high level of ownership.
• Proficiency in English, with strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the CoE team, managing performance, coaching, hiring, and individual growth.
• Establish and elevate technical standards across the team, from problem framing to impact measurement.
• Act as a player-coach, guiding design decisions and assisting the team in overcoming challenges.
• Ensure effective collaboration between data science and machine learning disciplines, facilitating the transition from prototype to production.
• Collaborate with Product and business leaders to identify and prioritize impactful data science and ML opportunities.
• Advocate for the CoE within the organization, demonstrating the value of advanced methods.
• Work with the People team to define the capability framework for data science and ML.
• Promote responsible AI practices and integrate valuable new tools into the team's processes.

Education

• Relevant degree in a technical field related to data science or machine learning is preferred.

Tools

• Familiarity with data science and machine learning tools and platforms is expected.
