Shellfish Hatchery Technician (Aquaculture, Nykøbing Mors)

Job summary

The role involves managing day-to-day operations in a shellfish hatchery, focusing on the production of European flat oysters and other bivalves over a two-year period. The technician will be integral to developing new procedures for upscaling production and ensuring the hatchery meets its ambitious goals.

Qualifications

• Aquaculture technician degree
• Minimum of five years of experience in shellfish hatchery
• Knowledge of biosecurity measures

Responsibilities

• Maintain and condition broodstock with detailed logbook records
• Rearing larvae: feeding, counting, size tracking, and mortality screening
• Manage nursery production: screening for mortality, counting, cleaning, and sorting seeds
• Control water quality and manage grow-out equipment
• Execute cleaning routines and maintenance of equipment
• Set up experiments and prepare samples for analysis
• Keep records and report monitoring data
• Implement sanitary procedures and contribute to biosecurity plans
• Participate in planning and executing experiments with various marine species
• Lead spat grow-out and pond production
• Engage in phytoplankton culture
• Participate in rotative on-call duties during weekends and evenings
