Senior Backend Engineer (Remote)

Job summary

This role involves joining a team of engineers to develop tools, APIs, and integrations for HR and Payroll products in a fully remote environment. The backend is built using Elixir and Phoenix, with a Postgres database, and applications are hosted on AWS.

Qualifications

• Strong engineering fundamentals with experience in shipping secure, reliable, and scalable production systems.
• Practical experience in designing automation workflows and improving them through iteration.
• Proficiency in Postgres or similar databases.
• Experience with CI/CD tools such as GitLab or GitHub.
• Demonstrated capabilities in automation and AI fluency.

Responsibilities

• Lead major projects and participate in cross-team initiatives.
• Provide feedback and suggest solutions during product work.
• Maintain a strong understanding of the team’s domain.
• Contribute to the shared codebase and participate in code reviews.
• Mentor other engineers and guide them in their development.
• Propose and implement improvements to the platform.
• Build reusable workflows and ensure quality through verification loops.

Skills

• Experience with Functional Programming languages (e.g., Elixir, Erlang).
• Familiarity with Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, and frontend frameworks like Next.js or React.

Education

• Relevant degree or equivalent experience in software engineering or a related field.
