Job summary

A postdoctoral position is available focusing on the valorization of saline effluents into bio-based plastics using non-conventional yeasts. The project aims to convert dairy wastewater into valuable compounds through microbial bioprocesses, specifically targeting the production of short-chain fatty acids and single cell proteins.

Qualifications

  • PhD degree or equivalent in a relevant field.
  • Research experience in fermentation technology with lab-scale bioreactors and high-throughput microbioreactor systems.
  • Proven expertise in microbial molecular biology, particularly with non-conventional yeasts and multi-omics analyses.
  • Strong collaboration and interdisciplinary skills.
  • Good communication abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop novel strains of Debaryomyces hansenii using CRISPR-based tools and adaptive laboratory evolution.
  • Assess cell performance and select promising candidates for process scaling to pilot bioreactors.
  • Contribute to teaching two courses on Fermentation Technology and supervise BSc and MSc student projects.

Skills

  • Experience with liquid handling robots and automated colony pickers.
  • Knowledge of multi-omics techniques such as RNAseq, proteomics, and metabolomics.

Education

  • A PhD degree or equivalent is required.

Tools

  • Familiarity with bioreactor systems, high-throughput fermentation devices, and molecular biology techniques.
