Job summary

This position involves research in non-conventional yeast biotechnology aimed at valorizing dairy wastewater into bio-based plastics. The project focuses on utilizing microbial processes to convert saline effluents into valuable compounds, specifically targeting the production of short-chain fatty acids and single-cell proteins using engineered yeast strains.

Qualifications

  • PhD degree or equivalent in a relevant field.
  • Research experience in fermentation technology, particularly with lab-scale bioreactors and high-throughput microbioreactor systems.
  • Background in microbial molecular biology, especially with non-conventional yeasts and multi-omics analyses.
  • Demonstrated international impact and collaboration skills.
  • Strong communication abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop novel strains of Debaryomyces hansenii using CRISPR-based tools and adaptive laboratory evolution techniques.
  • Assess cell performance and select promising candidates for scaling up to pilot bioreactors.
  • Contribute to teaching two courses on Fermentation Technology and supervise BSc and MSc student projects.

Skills

  • Proficiency with liquid handling robots and automated colony pickers.
  • Experience in multi-omics analyses including RNA sequencing, proteomics, and metabolomics.

Education

  • A PhD or equivalent in a relevant discipline is required.

Tools

  • Familiarity with bioreactor systems, high-throughput fermentation devices, and molecular biology techniques.
