Job summary

This role involves leading business development efforts focused on licensing, contracting, and funding mechanisms for advanced therapies, particularly in the life sciences sector. The position requires a strategic thinker who can translate complex legal and financial concepts into actionable plans.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in life sciences, law, business, or equivalent experience.
  • Approximately 8–12+ years of experience in business development, licensing, legal/commercial, venture, or partnership roles within life sciences.
  • Strong hands-on experience with licensing, complex contracts, and IP-heavy collaborations.
  • Preferred understanding of cell and gene therapy or advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMP).
  • Strong analytical skills, pragmatic approach, and ability to navigate ambiguity in senior stakeholder environments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the structuring and negotiation of licensing and collaboration agreements, including IP access and commercial agreements.
  • Develop scalable contract models that balance speed, risk, and strategic options for founders.
  • Manage internal and external legal workflows, acting as the primary liaison with external counsel.
  • Create and maintain a contractual playbook aligned with organizational goals.
  • Design and operationalize funding mechanisms such as translational funding pools and hybrid grant/investment models.
  • Facilitate discussions with foundations, public funders, and industry partners on funding structures.
  • Collaborate closely with senior leadership on complex business development topics and prepare decision materials for governance forums.
  • Engage with startups, academic groups, and industry partners to strengthen the organization's position in the ecosystem.

  • Strong negotiation and communication skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and make strategic decisions.
  • Proficient in developing legal and financial constructs from strategic initiatives.

Education

  • Advanced degree in relevant fields such as life sciences, law, or business.

Tools

  • Familiarity with legal and financial modeling tools, contract management systems, and collaboration platforms.
