Job summary

This role involves supporting sustainable electronic device development with a focus on reducing environmental impacts in medical devices. The Student Assistant will work on optimizing designs, materials, and components to address key environmental hotspots identified through Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs).

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of PCB layout tools (e.g., Altium, KiCad) and design principles.
  • Familiarity with semiconductors including MCUs, SoCs, PMICs, sensors, and CMOS nodes.
  • Understanding of materials such as FR-4 and bio-based laminates.
  • Ability to interpret LCA findings.

Responsibilities

  • Optimize PCB layouts to reduce energy and material use while maintaining performance.
  • Evaluate and select sustainable integrated circuits based on power and longevity.
  • Develop strategies to minimize electricity consumption throughout product lifetimes.
  • Collaborate with R&D, procurement, and quality teams to implement design changes based on LCA insights.
  • Commit to writing a final dissertation related to the role.
