Senior Engineering Manager (Infrastructure, Fully Remote)

Job summary

The role involves leading a fully remote Infrastructure organization responsible for a developer-focused cloud platform. The Senior Engineering Manager will guide multiple Engineering Team Leads, ensuring the platform's reliability, scalability, and performance while fostering a culture of autonomy and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Over 6 years of experience in leading infrastructure engineering teams, including managing other engineering managers or team leads.
• Deep understanding of team dynamics and leadership needs for optimal performance.
• Familiarity with Site Reliability Engineering practices, including on-call design and incident response.
• Strong working knowledge of Kubernetes in production environments.
• Experience with AWS services, particularly EKS, VPC, and IAM security architecture.
• Proficient in Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform or CDK.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a distributed team of Engineering Team Leads and their respective teams.
• Establish standards for team management and development.
• Promote an engineering culture focused on reliability and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with leadership to shape strategy and roadmap for the infrastructure organization.
• Ensure reliability and performance outcomes across the platform, including overseeing the SRE practice.
• Communicate technical direction and priorities to stakeholders effectively.

Skills

• Strong communication and leadership abilities to align teams and unblock engineers.
• Experience in running large-scale distributed systems with high availability.

Education

• Relevant degree or equivalent experience in a related field is preferred.

Tools

• Familiarity with Kubernetes, AWS, Terraform, and other Infrastructure as Code tools.
