The role involves building the strain-characterization and analytical foundation for a biotechnology program aimed at accelerating bioprocess development. This position requires hands-on work in a lab environment, focusing on strain engineering, characterization, and analytics to support fermentation processes.

Qualifications

  • Background in molecular biology or bioengineering with practical experience in strain engineering and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with biochemical analyses and characterization tools; knowledge of genomics is a plus.
  • Ability to design experiments, analyze complex datasets, and derive conclusions from varied results.
  • Strong experimental rigor and a mindset focused on root-cause analysis.
  • Experience in designing studies and protocols in an early-stage lab setting.
  • Self-motivated and collaborative, comfortable in a dynamic startup environment.

Responsibilities

  • Establish reproducible workflows for strain characterization and assays.
  • Build a reference dataset linking genotype and phenotype to fermentation performance.
  • Diagnose strain-related issues affecting scale transfer.
  • Deliver characterized strains and data packages for use by fermentation and modeling teams.
  • Collaborate with hardware and software teams to enhance automation and data capture.
  • Contribute to partner projects addressing real-world organisms and scale-up challenges.

Skills

  • Hands-on experience with strain building and troubleshooting.
  • Understanding of microbial physiology and its impact on fermentation performance.
  • Proficiency in analytical techniques for biomass and fermentation products.
  • Experience with design of experiments and statistical modeling tools such as Python or R.

Education

  • A degree in molecular biology, bioengineering, or a related field is preferred.

Tools

  • Familiarity with analytical tools and software for data analysis and experimental design.
