Postdoctoral Researcher in Techno-Economic and Environmental Assessment

Job summary

This position focuses on advancing low-carbon food and biomanufacturing through process engineering and sustainability assessment. The role involves developing process models and integrated techno-economic assessment (TEA) and life cycle assessment (LCA) workflows to support sustainable scale-up in gas precision fermentation projects.

Qualifications

• PhD degree (or equivalent) in chemical or bioprocess engineering.
• Proven experience in process modeling using both graphical and code-based tools.
• Advanced knowledge of TEA and LCA; experience in value-chain or market analysis is a plus.
• Strong programming skills, particularly in Python, with a focus on reproducible workflows and version control.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop decision-support models for CO2-Food BioSolutions, integrating process, environmental, economic, supply-chain, and market data.
• Model operations including upstream, bioreactor, and downstream processes using mass and energy balances.
• Create production inventories for product demonstrators and relevant missions.
• Conduct process simulations using tools like SuperPro Designer and BioSTEAM.
• Perform integrated TEA and ISO-aligned LCA, including scenario and sensitivity analyses.
• Build semi-automated TEA/LCA workflows in Python with defined data formats and interfaces.
• Collaborate with international partners to translate results into publications and actionable recommendations.

Skills

• Strong background in process engineering and sustainability assessment.
• Proficiency in Python and experience with version control systems like GitHub.

Education

• A PhD degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field is required.

Tools

• Experience with SuperPro Designer, BioSTEAM, and Python programming.
