Postdoctoral Researcher in Multiphysics Modelling (Sønderborg)

Job summary

A 2-year postdoctoral position is available focused on multiphysics modelling of bubble transport and electrochemical processes in alkaline electrolysers. The role is part of a collaborative project aimed at reducing the capital expenditure of green hydrogen production through innovative electrode design. The position is based in Sønderborg, Denmark, starting from October 1, 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter.

Qualifications

• PhD in engineering, computational science, physics, or a related field
• Background in computational fluid dynamics (CFD)
• Experience in multiphase flow and/or electrochemical transport modelling
• Proficiency with numerical simulation software such as ANSYS, COMSOL, or OpenFOAM
• Programming skills in Python, C++, or similar languages
• Strong teamwork and communication skills, along with independent research capabilities
• Proficient in English (spoken and written)

Responsibilities

• Develop and apply simulation methods for multiphase transport and current distribution in electrolysers
• Investigate bubble-driven internal electrolyte circulation
• Quantify transport processes impacting mass transfer and electrochemical performance
• Integrate computational and experimental results to enhance mechanistic understanding and predictive modelling
• Collaborate with academic and industrial partners
• Mentor and supervise students on related research topics
• Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at international conferences
• Assist with research funding applications and relevant teaching activities
