Job summary

This position focuses on advancing risk assessment and decision science related to marine environments, particularly in the context of offshore renewable energy, maritime transport, and conservation. The role is part of the OceanBalance project, which aims to create a framework for assessing cumulative environmental risks in marine spatial planning.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Maritime Engineering, Risk Analysis, Environmental Management, Decision Science, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in interdisciplinary research and complex socio-technical systems.
  • Proficiency in quantitative analysis, modeling, and programming.

Responsibilities

  • Develop methodologies for translating ecological risk assessments into decision-support metrics.
  • Design approaches for integrating various considerations in marine impact assessments.
  • Evaluate implications of new maritime technologies and alternative fuels.
  • Engage with stakeholders to ensure project relevance.
  • Contribute to an accessible decision-support framework for marine space use.
  • Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences.

Skills

  • Experience in maritime operations, offshore energy, fisheries management, or environmental regulation is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with impact assessment methodologies and decision-support tools.
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement and participatory processes.

Education

  • A PhD degree (or equivalent) is required.

Tools

  • Knowledge of risk management tools, multi-criteria decision analysis, and Bayesian networks is beneficial.
