Job summary

This position offers an opportunity for a motivated individual to contribute to a Horizon Europe project focused on developing digital twins for offshore wind infrastructures. The role involves enhancing the department's expertise in modeling offshore floating infrastructures and their positioning systems in ocean environments.

Qualifications

  • PhD degree (or equivalent) in marine hydrodynamics, mooring, or related fields.
  • Strong background in modeling floating offshore wind infrastructures.
  • Proactive approach with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Effective communication skills for disseminating results and sharing knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and validate a fully coupled hydro-aero-servo-elastic floating offshore wind turbine model in OpenFast.
  • Create data-driven surrogate models for floater motion, mooring tension, and dynamic tower response.
  • Develop algorithms to reconstruct full-field structural states from limited measurements and inputs.
  • Establish a framework to evaluate fatigue damage and update the remaining useful life of structural components.
  • Contribute to research-based teaching and supervision of MSc students.

Skills

  • Proficiency in marine hydrodynamics and mooring modeling.
  • Experience with OpenFast and data-driven modeling techniques.
  • Strong collaboration skills for working with academic and industrial partners.

Education

  • A PhD degree (or equivalent) is required.

Tools

  • OpenFast software for modeling offshore wind turbines.
