The role focuses on using state-of-the-art transmission electron microscopy (TEM) to observe catalysts in real-time under realistic conditions, contributing to the understanding of catalytic processes and the design of next-generation materials.

Qualifications

  • PhD degree (or equivalent) in physics, chemistry, or materials science.
  • Documented experience in atomic-resolution transmission electron microscopy.
  • Skills in microfabricated devices, 2D materials, catalysis, and/or surface science are preferred.
  • Proficiency in scientific programming, particularly with Python.
  • Strong academic track record and problem-solving abilities.
  • Good communication skills in English, both spoken and written.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an international research team.

Responsibilities

  • Perform operando, low-dose-rate TEM to capture real-time atomic-scale catalyst dynamics.
  • Advance imaging and spectroscopy techniques for gas-surface interactions and active-site formation.
  • Fabricate and utilize microfabricated reactors for realistic catalytic environments.
  • Visualize and interpret nanoparticle restructuring and surface dynamics.
  • Develop Python-based analysis tools for large time-resolved TEM datasets.
  • Establish links between atomic structure, dynamics, and catalytic functions of nanoparticles.
  • Collaborate with computational researchers on atomic-scale mechanisms and kinetics.
  • Contribute to high-impact publications and present findings at international conferences.
  • Engage in shaping new research directions within the research environment.

Skills

  • Expertise in atomic-resolution TEM.
  • Scientific programming skills, especially in Python.
  • Experience with microfabricated devices and catalysis.

Education

  • PhD degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field.

Tools

  • State-of-the-art transmission electron microscope (VISION PRIME).
  • Python for data analysis.
