PhD Student in Self-Adaptive AI Systems and Embedded Intelligence

Job summary

This position offers a PhD scholarship focused on researching reliable and self-adaptive AI systems within embedded, edge, and distributed computing environments. The role is part of the REGAIN-AI project, which aims to address challenges related to uncertainty and reliability in AI-enabled systems.

Qualifications

• MSc degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Machine Learning, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.
• Strong academic background and interest in AI systems, embedded intelligence, edge computing, or machine learning.
• Strong analytical and mathematical problem-solving skills.
• Experience with programming and experimental evaluation of computing systems.
• Excellent communication skills in English.

Responsibilities

• Conduct research on sustainable and self-adaptive AI systems.
• Develop models and methodologies for controlling uncertainty and resource consumption in AI systems.
• Create proof-of-concept implementations and validate solutions on embedded devices.
• Publish research results in international conferences and journals.
• Contribute to departmental service work, including teaching assistance.
• Collaborate with academic and industrial partners.

Skills

• Experience with software prototypes on embedded devices or resource-constrained platforms is advantageous.
• Familiarity with machine learning, probability theory, or statistical modeling is a plus.
• Previous research experience demonstrated through publications or projects is beneficial.

Education

• A two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or equivalent is required.

Tools

• Familiarity with programming languages and experimental evaluation tools relevant to computing systems.
