Job summary

A PhD position is available in the field of Materials Chemistry, focusing on Solid State Chemistry and Crystal Structure Analysis, with an emphasis on industrial applications. The role is based at the Mads Clausen Institute at the University of Southern Denmark in Sønderborg, Denmark, for a duration of three years, starting preferably on March 1, 2027.

Qualifications

  • MSc degree in Materials Science, Materials Chemistry, Solid State Chemistry, Solid State Physics, or related fields.
  • Hands-on experience with various synthesis methods in solid-state chemistry, particularly for mixed-anion compounds.
  • Proficiency in materials characterization techniques (e.g., XRD, XPS, SEM).
  • Skills in crystal structure analysis.
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to collaborate with scientists and industry.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research tasks related to the funded project.
  • Plan and execute collaborative and independent research, including materials synthesis and characterization.
  • Analyze and interpret research data independently.
  • Communicate and present research findings at seminars and conferences.
  • Write and publish research results in high-impact scientific journals.
  • Supervise BSc, MSc, and visiting students involved in similar research topics.
  • Assist in teaching and grant proposal preparation.
  • Help with laboratory organization and management.

Skills

  • Experience with X-ray, synchrotron, and neutron radiation facilities is advantageous.
  • Background in writing scientific publications.
  • Skills in scientific illustration and animation for project visualization.
  • Participation in national and international research projects is a plus.
  • Commitment to a growing research group is desirable.

Education

  • A Master's degree in a relevant field is required.

Tools

  • Familiarity with materials characterization tools such as XRD, XPS, and SEM.
