About the role

Job summary

A PhD position is available in the Bioconversions group focusing on synthetic community design and bioprocess development. The role involves developing novel bioprocesses driven by synthetic communities and analyzing microbial interactions.

Qualifications

  • MSc degree in Biotechnology, Life Sciences, or a related field.
  • Experience in bioinformatics, flow cytometry, and/or LC-MS/MS analysis.
  • Strong background in microbial metabolism and interspecies interactions in bioreactor settings.
  • Proven ability in developing and executing analytical protocols and wet lab experiments.
  • Strong writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research in microbial physiology and ecology related to bioprocess development.
  • Achieve scientific excellence through publications and outreach.
  • Design and perform bioreactor experiments to study microbial interactions.
  • Develop and improve wet lab and analytical protocols for microbial process analysis.
  • Utilize computational tools for bioinformatics and metabolic modeling.
  • Supervise BSc and MSc student projects.

Skills

  • Proficiency in wet lab techniques and computational methods.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.

Education

  • MSc degree in a relevant field is required.

Tools

  • Experience with flow cytometry, LC-MS/MS, and computational bioinformatics tools.
