PhD Researcher in Electron Microscopy (On-site)

Job summary

This position offers PhD scholarships focused on utilizing advanced electron microscopy techniques to study catalytic materials at the atomic scale. The research aims to observe catalysts in real-time under realistic conditions, contributing to a deeper understanding of catalytic processes.

Qualifications

• Degree in physics, chemistry, or materials science.
• Documented skills in atomic-resolution transmission electron microscopy.
• Experience in microfabricated devices, 2D materials, catalysis, and/or surface science.
• Proficiency in scientific programming, particularly with Python.
• Strong academic performance in Bachelor and Master studies.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills in English.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a research team.

Responsibilities

• Conduct operando, low-dose-rate TEM to capture real-time atomic-scale dynamics of catalysts.
• Advance imaging and spectroscopy techniques for gas-surface interactions and active-site formation.
• Fabricate and utilize microfabricated reactors for realistic catalytic environments.
• Visualize and analyze nanoparticle restructuring and surface dynamics.
• Develop Python-based tools for analyzing large time-resolved TEM datasets.
• Collaborate with computational researchers on atomic-scale mechanisms and stabilization strategies.
• Publish findings in high-impact scientific journals and present at international conferences.
• Actively contribute to shaping new research directions within the research environment.

Education

• A two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or equivalent academic level is required.
