About the role

Job summary

A PhD position is available in the Astroparticle and Dark Matter group at the Center for Cosmology and Particle Physics Phenomenology (CP3) at the University of Southern Denmark. The role focuses on developing detectors for cryogenic dark-matter axion experiments, specifically the Fabry-Pérot Axion Experiment (FAxE) and the Relic Axion Detector Exploratory Setup (RADES).

Qualifications

  • Strong motivation for fundamental research
  • Solid background in particle physics
  • Experience with RF components
  • Advantageous: experience in cryogenics, superconductivity, data analysis, programming, and international research collaborations

Responsibilities

  • Characterization and development of resonators and cavities for FAxE and RADES
  • Study superconducting cavity and mirror coatings to enhance experimental sensitivity
  • Develop read-out systems and data acquisition
  • Participate in data-taking campaigns, including shift work and non-standard hours

Education

  • Enrollment as a PhD student at the Graduate School for Natural Sciences at SDU and the doctoral program at CERN

Tools

  • Access to state-of-the-art cryogenic facilities and experimental setups at SDU and CERN
