About the role

Job summary

A fully funded PhD position is available focusing on the multiscale operando characterization of zinc-based batteries, particularly rechargeable zinc-air batteries. The role involves developing and applying advanced methods to study battery dynamics and optimize performance through interdisciplinary research.

Qualifications

  • A two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or equivalent.
  • Expertise in X-ray diffraction and computed tomography.
  • Experience in electrochemical characterization of materials.
  • Familiarity with crystal structure analysis and Rietveld refinement.
  • Experience working at large-scale facilities, such as synchrotrons.
  • Proficient in English, both spoken and written.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and strategic thinking.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct electrochemical characterization of zinc-air battery cells.
  • Develop specialized in situ cells for operando experiments.
  • Perform detailed materials characterization using in-house techniques.
  • Execute synchrotron X-ray diffraction and imaging studies.
  • Analyze large data sets using automated Rietveld refinement.
  • Disseminate research findings through reports and publications.

Skills

  • Independent laboratory work and teamwork capabilities.
  • Highly motivated and organized with a focus on documentation and dissemination of results.

Education

  • A master's degree or equivalent in a relevant field is required.

Tools

  • In-house facilities for diffraction and imaging, synchrotron X-ray sources, and automated data analysis software.
