PhD Researcher in Audiology and Data Science

Job summary

This position involves a 3-year PhD scholarship focused on the relationship between hearing loss and brain health, particularly in the context of dementia risk. The role is part of an international collaboration between institutions in Denmark and Australia, aiming to develop and validate hearing loss phenotypes using large-scale clinical datasets.

Qualifications

• A two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or equivalent in biomedical engineering, neuroscience, data science, statistics, audiology, physics, computer science, or a related field.
• Strong quantitative and analytical skills, particularly in statistics, modelling, machine learning, or data science.
• Programming experience in Python, R, Matlab, or similar environments.
• Interest in hearing science, epidemiology, vascular health, and dementia research.
• Ability to work with large and complex datasets and independently in a cross-disciplinary environment.
• Proficient communication skills in English.

Responsibilities

• Develop and apply computational models to derive hearing loss phenotypes from clinical audiograms.
• Assess the robustness and validity of model-based phenotypes.
• Analyze large-scale linked audiological and registry datasets.
• Evaluate associations between hearing loss components, vascular health, and dementia outcomes.
• Collaborate with clinicians, epidemiologists, and engineers across Denmark and Australia.
• Disseminate research findings through publications and conferences.
