About the role

Job summary

A PhD position is available focusing on the formation and health impacts of N-nitrosamines in food systems, part of an international research initiative. The project aims to investigate both endogenous and exogenous N-nitrosamines and their role in chronic disease development through in vitro digestion models.

Qualifications

  • Two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or equivalent in analytical chemistry, food science, environmental science, toxicology, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in chemical food safety and human health.
  • Experience or interest in analytical techniques such as LC-MS/MS or chromatography.
  • Knowledge of in vitro digestion models and experimental design is preferred.
  • Skills in data analysis and statistics using tools like R or similar software.
  • Strong laboratory and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment.
  • Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design and conduct in vitro digestion experiments using the INFOGEST model.
  • Investigate the influence of various dietary sources on N-nitrosamine formation.
  • Study the effects of promoters and inhibitors on nitrosation reactions.
  • Perform quantitative analyses of N-nitrosamines using advanced techniques such as LC-MS/MS.
  • Process and analyze complex datasets with statistical tools.
  • Contribute to dietary exposure modeling and communicate findings through publications and conferences.
  • Complete PhD coursework and participate in teaching activities related to food safety and chemistry.
