About the role

Job summary

Applications are invited for up to two PhD positions focused on early galaxy formation and evolution as part of the PRIMORDIAL research project funded by an ERC Starting Grant. The successful candidates will join a dedicated team and collaborate on observational studies using data from JWST and ALMA to investigate the influence of primordial matter on galaxy formation and cosmic reionization.

Qualifications

  • A two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or equivalent academic level is required. Candidates who have not yet graduated must provide documentation of ongoing master's education.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct observational studies of galaxies and their environments.
  • Analyze data from JWST and ALMA to understand the impact of primordial matter on galaxy formation.
  • Collaborate with local and international teams on research projects.
  • Teach and take graduate-level courses at the university.

Skills

  • Experience or interest in galaxy formation, Lyman-alpha absorption, ISM/CGM evolution, and spectroscopic data analysis, particularly with JWST and/or ALMA.

Education

  • A master's degree or equivalent in a relevant field is required.

Tools

  • Proficiency in data analysis tools and techniques related to astrophysics and observational astronomy.
