Job summary

This PhD position focuses on developing advanced modelling tools for carbon capture technology in cement production, specifically through computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and sustainability analysis. The role is part of a project aimed at integrating a novel calcination technology into existing cement plants to enhance CO₂ capture.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, energy engineering, process engineering, or a related field (equivalent to a two-year master's degree).
  • Experience in CFD modelling of multiphase reactive flows, high-temperature processes, combustion, calcination, or carbon capture is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with life cycle assessment, techno-economic assessment, or sustainability analysis is preferred.
  • Proficient in written and spoken English.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and validate CFD models for gas–solid flow, heat transfer, oxyfuel combustion, and calcination.
  • Analyze key process parameters using CFD and engineering models to support design, operation, optimization, and scale-up.
  • Conduct system-level assessments, including life cycle and techno-economic evaluations.
  • Publish research findings in scientific journals and present at conferences.

Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with academic and industrial partners.

Education

  • A two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or equivalent.

Tools

  • CFD modelling software and engineering analysis tools.
