Job summary

A PhD position is available focusing on the chemical safety assessment of novel food packaging materials at a leading technical university. The project aims to improve risk assessment and regulatory strategies by combining analytical chemistry, computational toxicology, and biological testing.

Qualifications

  • A two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or equivalent in analytical chemistry, food science, environmental science, toxicology, or a related field.
  • Strong background in analytical chemistry with hands-on experience in chromatographic and mass-spectrometric techniques (e.g., LC-MS, GC-MS).
  • Experience in method development, non-target analysis, and complex dataset interpretation is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of computational toxicology and in vitro bioassays is desirable.
  • Proficiency in R or similar software is a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong written and spoken English communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop methods for chemical migration testing of food packaging materials.
  • Create analytical methods using advanced mass-spectrometric tools.
  • Conduct advanced data analysis of mass-spectrometric results.
  • Screen potential health risks using in silico toxicology models.
  • Perform in vitro bioassays with relevant toxicological endpoints.
  • Evaluate the feasibility and performance of developed approaches.
  • Disseminate research findings through publications and presentations.
  • Complete PhD coursework and participate in teaching activities.
