Optical Engineer

Job summary

The role involves supporting the development, assembly, and testing of custom laser systems and optical subsystems, collaborating closely with senior engineers.

Qualifications

• Background in optical engineering, physics, or a related field.
• Hands-on experience with laser systems, particularly ultrafast and/or high-power continuous wave (CW) laser sources.
• Understanding of optical modes in fibers and their effects on coupling and system performance.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the design and execution of experiments and feasibility studies for new laser and optical system concepts.
• Characterize and test laser systems and fiber-optic assemblies to assess performance and validate designs.
• Support high-power laser testing of optical assemblies and subsystems.
• Contribute to the development of optical prescriptions and layouts using design tools such as Zemax.
• Document experimental setups, test results, and assembly procedures to aid in product development.

Skills

• Proficiency in free-space optical setups, including alignment and coupling to optical fibers.
• Capability in optical test and measurement, including laser and beam characterization.
