Lead - Process Development Unit (Biosolutions)

Job summary

The role involves leading the Process Development Unit focused on supporting the upscaling of biosolutions in food, agriculture, industrial biotechnology, and materials. The position is integral to the Upscalator initiative, which aids European start-ups in scaling innovative biosolutions.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or PhD in Bioprocess Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, or a related field.
• 6–10 years of relevant industrial experience in bioprocessing, process development, or scale-up.
• Proven track record of scaling biosolutions from laboratory to pilot/commercial scale.
• Experience in performing/reviewing techno-economic analyses (TEAs) is preferred.
• Strong network within the bioprocessing community.
• Fluent in English, both written and spoken.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations of the Upscalator initiative.
• Lead the operation and continuous improvement of the Process Development Unit.
• Manage the upscaling advisory function for start-ups.
• Collaborate with external pilot-scale production facilities and stakeholders.
• Act as the domain expert on upscaling biosolutions.
• Provide coaching and support to team members.
