Head of Test Development Engineering

Job summary

This leadership role involves overseeing the Test Development Engineering team, which is responsible for transforming product concepts into testable and manufacturable solutions within a medical device context. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders to enhance testing capabilities and ensure alignment with product development goals.

Qualifications

• Relevant degree in engineering, science, or a similar technical field
• Proven experience in people, project, or technical leadership, or strong motivation to lead specialists
• Experience in product development within a regulated industry such as medical devices, pharmaceuticals, or in-vitro diagnostics
• Strong communication skills to navigate stakeholders across R&D and business areas

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the Test Development Engineering group, including Test Development Engineers and Prototype Engineering Specialists
• Set direction for the team's mandate, priorities, and operational methods across Product Development
• Develop capabilities in mechanical, material, adhesive, and chemical test development, as well as prototype planning and automation
• Engage with Product Development projects to address test challenges and ensure appropriate test solutions
• Foster collaboration with domain specialists and manufacturing stakeholders to enhance testability and evidence creation
• Advocate for the Test Development Engineering discipline within Product Development, emphasizing its value

Skills

• Understanding of product design, materials, adhesives, chemistry, and verification activities
• Interest in simulation, automation, robotics, AI, or data-driven testing approaches
• Familiarity with Design Verification and design controls in a Class II/III medical device context

Education

• A degree in engineering, science, or a related technical discipline

Tools

• Experience with testing tools and methodologies relevant to product development in a regulated environment
