Staff Analytics Engineer

Job summary

This role is a senior individual contributor position within the Data Services & Governance team, focusing on establishing and maintaining analytics standards and a semantic layer that serves as a single source of truth for the organization. The position involves building foundational analytics infrastructure and tooling from the ground up, with a strong emphasis on AI-augmented development practices.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience with dbt and data modeling practices, including the ability to define and enforce architectural standards across functions.
• Proficient in BigQuery and SQL, with a strong understanding of performance and cost considerations in complex analytical environments.
• Proven experience managing a semantic layer, with insights into maintaining metric consistency at scale.
• Familiarity with AI-native development practices in data engineering, utilizing AI coding tools effectively.
• Demonstrated ability to set and uphold standards across teams without direct management authority.

Responsibilities

• Define and maintain the semantic layer, ensuring consistent metric definitions across the organization.
• Establish data modeling standards for the analytics function, promoting clean and well-tested architecture.
• Lead the Analytics Engineering community of practice, facilitating code reviews, documentation, and onboarding.
• Implement AI-native development practices in data modeling and migrations.
• Collaborate with backend and product engineers to ensure data contract discipline and schema ownership.
• Contribute to external customer-facing analytics products, enhancing data modeling patterns and capabilities.

Skills

• Expertise in dbt, BigQuery, SQL, and AI coding tools.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on building scalable solutions.
• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities, working effectively with cross-functional teams.

Education

• Relevant degree or equivalent experience in data engineering, analytics, or a related field.
