Senior Software Engineer (Mainframe Development)

Job summary

The role involves contributing to the modernization and operational excellence of core transaction processing systems within a Mainframe Services team. The Senior Software Engineer will ensure the reliability, scalability, and security of critical systems supporting billions of transactions.

Qualifications

• Over 5 years of experience in mainframe development, specifically with IBM z/OS, COBOL, JCL, DB2, and SQL.
• Strong understanding of z/OS architecture and batch processing.
• Experience with file transfer gateways and integration layers.
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies.
• Ability to work effectively in a global team and communicate across time zones.
• A passion for modernization and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain applications based on COBOL, JCL, and DB2 on IBM z/OS.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate mainframe services with distributed systems.
• Lead modernization initiatives, including migration to event-driven architectures and API enablement.
• Ensure compliance with established Mainframe Security Technical Standards.
• Participate in daily change request syncs and operational reviews.
• Contribute to the Software Engineering Guild’s leveling and performance standards.
• Participate in on-call duties outside of regular working hours.

Skills

• Proficiency in COBOL, JCL, DB2, and SQL.
• Understanding of Agile methodologies.
• Strong communication skills for global collaboration.

Education

• Relevant degree or equivalent experience in software engineering or a related field.
