About the role

Job summary

The role involves owning the retrieval pipeline for a legal tech AI product, ensuring accurate document parsing, chunking, and embedding, while maintaining data security and isolation. The position is fully remote, allowing work from anywhere in the EU.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years of experience in building backend systems in production, with at least two years focused on retrieval or RAG systems.
  • Proven ability to diagnose and fix retrieval regressions in production environments.
  • Experience in maintaining a golden set for retrieval metrics.
  • Familiarity with running vector indexes in production, including parameter selection and reindexing.
  • Strong proficiency in Python and experience with FastAPI, PostgreSQL, and Redis.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the end-to-end retrieval pipeline, including document parsing, embeddings, and indexing.
  • Design and implement search strategies combining semantic and keyword retrieval.
  • Develop agentic retrieval mechanisms and evaluation layers to ensure system effectiveness.
  • Deliver reliable services using Python and FastAPI, ensuring performance under load.
  • Ensure data security and proper handling of client materials.
  • Adapt retrieval processes to support multiple languages effectively.

Skills

  • Strong Python programming skills.
  • Experience with FastAPI and vector databases, particularly Qdrant.
  • Knowledge of embedding models and retrieval quality metrics.
  • Background in OCR-heavy document ingestion and information retrieval techniques.

Education

  • Relevant degree or equivalent experience in a related field is preferred.
