Job summary

This role involves the development of custom mechanical and electromechanical systems for advanced fabrication and experimental environments, focusing on industrial machine design and build across the full lifecycle from concept to deployment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong experience in industrial mechanical design and build of custom equipment.
  • Proven hands-on experience with assembly, integration, and debugging of physical systems.
  • Solid CAD skills (e.g., SolidWorks or similar).

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of mechanical and electromechanical systems from concept through deployment.
  • Define system requirements and design approaches based on operational needs.
  • Design precision mechanisms and motion systems using CAD tools.
  • Perform structural and thermal assessments to support design decisions.
  • Assemble, integrate, test, and debug mechanical systems to ensure stable operation.
  • Iterate designs based on testing and feedback to enhance performance and usability.
  • Collaborate with suppliers for component sourcing and integration.
  • Generate documentation including drawings and test plans to support development.

Skills

  • Ability to operate across the full development lifecycle.
  • Familiarity with vacuum or UHV systems is a plus.
  • Experience with motion systems and multi-axis mechanisms preferred.

Education

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in a relevant engineering field or equivalent experience.

Tools

  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks).
