Senior Backend Engineer (Remote)

Job summary

This role involves joining a team of engineers to develop tools, APIs, and integrations for various products. The backend is primarily built using Elixir and Phoenix, with a Postgres database, and applications are hosted on AWS.

Qualifications

• Strong engineering fundamentals with experience in shipping secure, reliable, and scalable production systems.
• Practical experience in designing or adopting automation workflows and improving them iteratively.
• Proficiency in Postgres or similar databases.
• Experience with CI/CD tools such as GitLab or GitHub.
• Demonstrated capabilities in automation and AI fluency.

Responsibilities

• Lead development on major projects and participate in cross-team initiatives for HR and Payroll products.
• Engage in product work, providing feedback and suggesting improvements based on technical insights.
• Maintain a solid understanding of the team’s domain from both product and engineering perspectives.
• Conduct code reviews and contribute to the shared codebase.
• Mentor other engineers and participate in hiring and support activities.
• Propose and implement improvements to the platform, focusing on performance and API design.

Skills

• Experience with Functional Programming languages (e.g., Elixir, Erlang).
• Familiarity with Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, and modern front-end frameworks (Next.js, React).

Education

• Relevant experience in software engineering or a related field is preferred.

Tools

• Elixir, Phoenix, Postgres, AWS, GitLab, CI/CD tools.
