Senior Backend Engineer (Remote)

Job summary

This role involves joining a team of engineers to develop tools, APIs, and integrations for various products in a fully remote environment. The backend is primarily built with Elixir and Phoenix, utilizing a Postgres database, with front-end components in React and Next.js. The position emphasizes automation and AI capabilities, and offers significant challenges and opportunities for impact within the company.

Qualifications

• Strong engineering fundamentals with experience in shipping secure, reliable, and scalable production systems.
• Practical experience in designing or adopting automation workflows and improving them through iteration.
• Ability to think in systems, define specifications, and ensure quality through verification.
• Experience with Postgres or similar databases.
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as GitLab or GitHub.
• Demonstrated capabilities in automation and AI fluency.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of major projects and participate in cross-team initiatives for HR and Payroll products.
• Actively engage in product work, providing feedback and suggesting improvements.
• Maintain a strong understanding of the team’s domain from both product and engineering perspectives.
• Conduct code reviews and contribute to the shared codebase.
• Debug technical and business issues, and mentor other engineers.
• Propose and implement improvements to the platform, focusing on performance and API design.

Skills

• Experience with Functional Programming languages (e.g., Elixir, Erlang, Scala).
• Familiarity with Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, Next.js, and modern JavaScript frameworks (React/Vue/Angular) is a plus.

Education

• Relevant educational background in computer science or a related field is preferred but not explicitly required.
