Senior Backend Engineer (Remote)

Job summary

The role involves joining a team of engineers focused on building tools, APIs, and integrations for various products. The backend is developed using Elixir and Phoenix, with a Postgres database, while the front-end utilizes React and Next.js. The position is fully remote, allowing for flexible work arrangements.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in engineering with a focus on secure, reliable, and scalable production systems.
• Familiarity with designing or adopting automation workflows and enhancing them through iteration.
• Strong understanding of systems thinking, including defining specifications and ensuring quality through verification.
• Experience with Postgres or similar databases.
• Proficient in CI/CD practices using tools like GitLab, GitHub, or Jenkins.
• Demonstrated capabilities in automation and AI fluency.

Responsibilities

• Lead major projects and engage in cross-team initiatives for HR and Payroll products.
• Actively contribute to product discussions, providing technical insights and suggesting improvements.
• Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the team’s domain from both product and engineering perspectives.
• Conduct code reviews and contribute to the shared codebase.
• Debug and resolve technical and business challenges.
• Mentor junior engineers and participate in hiring and RFC discussions.
• Propose and implement improvements to the platform, focusing on performance and accessibility.

Skills

• Strong engineering fundamentals.
• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, Next.js, and React/Vue/Angular is a plus.

Education

• Relevant degree or equivalent experience in software engineering or a related field.
