Senior AI Engineer

Job summary

The role involves building the AI layer for a platform serving the hospitality and retail sectors, focusing on creating agents that assist with shift planning and operational tasks across numerous locations. This is a hands-on position where the engineer will ship functional AI agents and evaluate their performance in real-world scenarios.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in building and deploying AI agents for real users.
• Strong curiosity demonstrated through personal projects and practical applications.
• Proficient in context and prompt engineering, with a focus on retrieval and tool design.
• Solid production engineering skills in TypeScript and Node.js, or ability to adapt quickly from another typed language.
• Experience in assessing when to use AI versus traditional methods like SQL queries.
• Fluent in English, both spoken and written.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement agent harnesses that interact with internal and external tools.
• Establish evaluation loops to measure agent performance and define success metrics.
• Manage the complete development cycle from user interfaces to backend services.
• Ensure operational reliability, addressing issues as they arise in production.
• Explore and test new models and frameworks to determine their applicability.
• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to integrate AI features into the broader platform.

Skills

• 5+ years of full-stack development experience, particularly with React, React Native, TypeScript, and Node.js.
• Ability to design scalable and fault-tolerant distributed systems.
• Experience in fast-paced startup or scale-up environments.

Education

• Relevant degree or equivalent experience in a related field.

Tools

• Familiarity with Vercel AI SDK and agent frameworks like Mastra is a plus.
