About the role

Job summary

This postdoctoral position involves developing a focusing neutron optics prototype as part of a research project funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation. The goal is to enhance neutron flux for various methods by creating a nested Wolter condenser, inspired by X-ray optics technology. The project aims to demonstrate the functionality of this optics through real-time imaging of samples, such as Li-ion batteries.

Qualifications

  • PhD degree (or equivalent) in solid state physics, astrophysics, materials science, solid state chemistry, or related fields.
  • Strong knowledge of neutron and/or X-ray optics, including reflectometry.
  • Experience with ray-tracing simulations (e.g., McStas, McXtrace) and/or wave propagation simulations.
  • Proficiency in data analysis using Python or similar tools.
  • Self-motivated with good communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Responsibilities

  • Define optimal designs for the nested Wolter mirror optics module.
  • Conduct experimental characterization of components and mirror assemblies using light, X-rays, and neutrons.
  • Apply ray-tracing simulations and develop components for neutron imaging beamlines.
  • Explore the limitations and feasibility of the nested Wolter mirror optics as a neutron condenser and objective.

Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in simulation software and data analysis tools.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

Education

  • A PhD degree in a relevant field is required.

Tools

  • Experience with McStas, McXtrace, and Python for simulations and data analysis.
