Job summary

The Centre for Journalism at the University of Southern Denmark is offering a three-year full-time PhD scholarship focused on the project 'Navigating Negativity: What is a Healthy News Diet?'. The research aims to explore the impact of negative news on societal issues and mental well-being, identifying barriers and opportunities for a healthy news diet. The PhD student will primarily engage with the content analysis subproject, examining negativity across various news outlets and social media.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in computational social science, computer science, communication, political science, or journalism/media studies.
• Strong computational skills and a solid understanding of research designs and methods.

Responsibilities

• Conduct analyses of content from news outlets and social media data donations.
• Manage data donation hubs for social media data collection.
• Participate in all research phases, including conception, execution, analysis, and dissemination.
• Engage with the research community and relevant societal actors, including news media and the public.

Skills

• Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in consultation with the PhD supervisor.
• Strong communication skills for presenting research at conferences and engaging with various stakeholders.

Education

• Applicants must hold or be on track to complete a master's degree of 120 ECTS or equivalent qualifications by the start of the PhD program.

Tools

• Familiarity with automated content analysis methods and data donation processes.
