About the role

Job summary

A PhD candidate is sought to explore the nonlinear interactions in turbulent flow structures affecting wind turbine wake dynamics. The research will involve fluid mechanics, high-fidelity simulations, and data-driven modeling to enhance understanding of wind turbine wake behavior under realistic atmospheric conditions.

Qualifications

  • Background in engineering, physics, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of fluid mechanics, turbulence, boundary-layer flows, and wake aerodynamics.
  • Familiarity with dynamical systems.
  • Experience with data-driven methods, such as Proper Orthogonal Decomposition (POD) and autoencoders.
  • Proficient in handling large datasets and scientific programming, particularly in Python.
  • Strong communication skills in English.
  • Positive attitude, critical thinking, and eagerness to learn.
  • Must possess a two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct CFD simulations of wind turbine wake aerodynamics under various conditions.
  • Evaluate different data-driven methods for accuracy and efficiency in modeling wake aerodynamics.
  • Perform uncertainty quantification and validate models against experimental and CFD results.
  • Provide physical interpretations of developed models.
  • Participate in scientific conferences and publish research findings.

Education

  • A two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or equivalent is required.

Tools

  • Experience with scientific programming languages, particularly Python, is essential.
