Job summary

This position offers an opportunity to pursue a PhD focused on the sustainable recycling of iron-based metals, specifically investigating the impact of tramp elements on the properties of cast iron and steel. The role involves experimental and thermodynamic analysis to enhance scrap sorting processes and improve recycling quality.

Qualifications

• A two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or equivalent academic level.
• Experience in designing, conducting, and analyzing laboratory experiments.
• Background in metallurgical thermodynamics and familiarity with modeling software.
• Knowledge of materials characterization methods such as SEM, XRD, and CT scanning.
• Understanding of metal and alloy production processes.

Responsibilities

• Investigate the influence of alloying and tramp elements on the microstructure and properties of recycled materials.
• Collaborate with a postdoc on statistical analysis of production data.
• Design and conduct laboratory experiments to produce alloys with controlled compositions.
• Analyze materials using various characterization techniques.
• Work with researchers from multiple institutions and industrial partners to enhance recycling strategies.
• Engage in teaching-related activities and disseminate research findings through publications and conferences.
