Job summary

This position offers a PhD opportunity focused on the scaling up and optimization of Pressure Retarded Osmosis processes within the field of membrane technology. The role involves enhancing power output and minimizing fouling under hypersaline conditions through experimental testing and numerical modeling.

Qualifications

  • MSc degree in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with membrane separation processes and handling membrane unit operations at laboratory or pilot scale.
  • Understanding of transport phenomena, fluid dynamics, or spacer design in membrane modules.
  • Interest or experience in process modeling, computational fluid dynamics, or data-driven approaches.
  • Basic knowledge of fouling mechanisms and experimental testing under high salinity conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Strengthen departmental competencies in Pressure Retarded Osmosis.
  • Develop and evaluate optimized spacer geometries and feed flow distribution.
  • Conduct long-duration testing of plate and frame modules.
  • Collaborate with academic and industrial partners both locally and internationally.

Education

  • A two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or equivalent academic level is required.

Tools

  • Familiarity with experimental testing setups, computational fluid dynamics software, and data analysis tools is advantageous.
