About the role

Job summary

Two fully funded PhD positions are available for research on cross-border coordination within the Nordic power system, as part of the Nordic-Sec project. These roles will be based at DTU and involve collaboration with industry partners to address urgent operational challenges in energy systems.

Qualifications

  • Strong background in power and energy systems, industrial engineering, control, operations research, applied mathematics, data science, or economics.
  • Experience or interest in interdisciplinary research, particularly in stochastic optimization, machine learning, and cooperative game theory.

Responsibilities

  • PhD 1: Develop advanced mechanisms for coordinated cross-border capacity allocation among Nordic TSOs and the RCC, focusing on accuracy, transparency, and fairness in capacity calculations.
  • PhD 2: Create decision-support mechanisms for joint reserve sizing and procurement, utilizing stochastic optimization and decision-focused learning to enhance efficiency and cost-sharing among TSOs.

Skills

  • Proficiency in modeling and optimization techniques.
  • Familiarity with probabilistic methods and game-theoretic frameworks.

Education

  • Candidates should hold or be close to completing a relevant master's degree.

Tools

  • Experience with decision-support systems and modeling languages is advantageous.
