About the role

Job summary

A fully funded PhD position is available focusing on molecular and immunological approaches to enhance understanding and diagnosis of respiratory infections and vaccine responses. The project involves developing a pipeline for pathogen detection and microbial profiling, alongside studying immunological responses to vaccines.

Qualifications

  • A two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or equivalent.
  • Strong background in bioinformatics, microbiology, immunology, molecular biology, computational biology, or related fields.
  • Experience with sequencing technologies, microbiome analysis, programming, data integration, or immunological assays is advantageous.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize a pipeline for pathogen detection and microbial profiling from respiratory samples.
  • Conduct bioinformatic analyses of microbiome composition and molecular biomarkers.
  • Characterize antibody glycosylation patterns and functionality related to immune responses.
  • Manage and interpret complex datasets in molecular, microbiological, and immunological contexts.
  • Publish research findings with supervisors and project partners.
  • Engage with internal and external collaborators and represent research at conferences.

Education

  • A master's degree or equivalent in a relevant field is required.

Tools

  • Metagenomic sequencing, bioinformatics software, image-based machine learning, and functional assays.
