PhD Candidate in Marine Ecology and Ecotoxicology

Job summary

This PhD position focuses on investigating the transgenerational effects of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) on blue mussels, particularly how these effects are influenced by climate change. The research will be conducted primarily at a marine research facility, with some experiments taking place in Greenland and Spain.

Qualifications

• A two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or equivalent in natural sciences (e.g., marine/aquatic biology, oceanography, ecotoxicology, environmental engineering).
• Experience in field or laboratory work related to marine biology, preferably with plankton or benthic invertebrates.
• Interest in international collaboration and willingness to conduct research stays in Greenland and Spain.
• Proficient communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
• Ability to work independently and solve problems effectively.
• Strong collaborative skills and a commitment to interdisciplinary research.

Responsibilities

• Conduct controlled laboratory experiments to assess the effects of various PFAS compounds on blue mussel larvae, considering adult pre-exposure.
• Investigate whether transgenerational effects vary by compound.
• Compare the sensitivity of mussel offspring from different pollution levels.
• Analyze the impact of climate on population susceptibility through experiments in Arctic and Mediterranean environments.
