About the role

Job summary

A 3-year PhD position is available in the Enzyme Technology group focused on enzyme biotechnology for seaweed polysaccharide modifications. The project involves developing sulfatases for enzyme-based reactions and includes collaboration with the Technical University of Munich.

Qualifications

  • A two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or equivalent academic level.
  • Strong foundation in molecular biology related to enzyme production.
  • Practical experience in enzyme characterization and assays.
  • Interest in applied enzyme technology and systematic experimental work.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research from enzyme discovery to function and kinetics assessment.
  • Characterize heterologous enzyme production and develop enzyme assays.
  • Link experimental work to enzyme function, robustness, and kinetics.
  • Supervise and teach BSc and MSc students.

Skills

  • Experience with protein/DNA construct design software and molecular biology.
  • Practical skills in enzyme protein expression, purification, and assessment.
  • Computational skills in enzyme discovery and characterization.
  • Familiarity with electronic lab book systems (preferably Benchling).

Education

  • Candidates must hold a relevant master's degree or be nearing graduation.

Tools

  • State-of-the-art protein/DNA construct design software, electronic lab book systems.
